Why Dryer Vent Cleaning Matters
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), failure to clean dryer vents is the leading cause of dryer fires in the United States, responsible for approximately 17,000 home fires per year. Lint is highly flammable — when it accumulates in your vent, restricted airflow causes the dryer to overheat, creating a serious fire hazard.
Beyond fire safety, a clogged dryer vent forces your dryer to work harder, increasing energy costs by up to 30% and shortening the lifespan of your appliance. Regular cleaning pays for itself in lower utility bills and fewer dryer repairs.
Our 5-Step Cleaning Process
Disconnect & Inspect
We safely disconnect the dryer from the vent and perform a thorough inspection of the entire vent run, checking for damage, blockages, and lint accumulation.
Rotary Brush Cleaning
A specialized rotary brush is inserted through the full length of the vent to agitate and loosen compacted lint from the vent walls.
Vacuum Lint Removal
A high-powered vacuum extracts all loosened lint and debris from the vent system, ensuring complete removal.
Airflow Test
We test the airflow at the exterior vent to confirm the vent is clear and operating at optimal performance. You'll feel the difference immediately.
Reconnect & Verify
We securely reconnect the dryer to the vent, verify proper exhaust operation, and clean up the work area.
How We Clean a Dryer Vent — the Full Run, Not Just the Trap
A dryer vent is a duct run that starts behind your dryer and ends at an exterior termination — a wall hood, roof cap, or eave vent. Lint collects along the entire run, and the worst clogs are almost always at the far end, where DIY brushes never reach. Our cleaning covers the full run:
1. Airflow check and inspection. We measure how the vent is flowing before we start and look at the transition hose behind the dryer, which kinks and traps lint more than any other section.
2. Rotary brush cleaning of the entire duct. A flexible rotary brush travels the full length of the vent line, scrubbing compacted lint off the duct wall while a vacuum captures the debris. We work the run from the accessible end and clear the termination.
3. Exterior termination service. Wall hoods, roof caps, and eave vents get opened and cleared — including bird nests and failed flaps, which we find on a large share of Bay Area jobs. Roof terminations are common here and we handle them routinely.
4. Reconnection and verification. The dryer goes back, the transition hose is reconnected properly, and we verify airflow at the termination so you can see the vent actually exhausting.
Most single-family jobs take under an hour. Long runs and roof terminations take a bit more.
Why This Is a Safety Service, Not a Nice-to-Have
Lint is highly flammable, and a clogged vent traps dryer exhaust heat exactly where the lint is. Failure to clean the dryer is the leading factor in home dryer fires tracked by the National Fire Protection Association — which is why NFPA guidance is to have dryer venting inspected and cleaned regularly, and why we recommend an annual cleaning for most households.
The signs your vent is already restricted: clothes taking two cycles to dry, the dryer or the laundry room getting noticeably hot, a burning smell during operation, or an exterior flap that barely opens when the dryer runs. A restricted vent also makes your dryer work longer per load — clearing it is one of the few home services that pays part of itself back in energy use.
Dryer Vent Cleaning Prices
Standard dryer vent cleaning is $149. Stacked washer/dryer units — where the vent routing is tighter and the dryer has to come out of the stack alcove — are $299. Multi-unit buildings, HOAs, and shared laundry rooms are quoted per property: see commercial services or email commercial.sales@calductcleaning.com.
We also install and replace dryer vents — failed terminations, crushed runs, and missing bird guards — see dryer vent installation (from $49).

Multi-Unit Buildings and Property Managers
Dryer vent maintenance is one of the most commonly deferred safety items in multi-unit housing — and one of the easiest to systematize. We service apartment buildings, condo complexes, HOAs, and shared laundry rooms across the Bay Area on scheduled sweeps, with per-property quotes and documentation suited to compliance files: units serviced, condition found, and work performed. Photo documentation is included by default on commercial and multi-unit work.
If you manage a property, email commercial.sales@calductcleaning.com with the unit count and vent locations (wall, roof, or shared risers) and we will quote the building — see commercial laundry room vent cleaning for shared facilities.
One more thing worth knowing: what we pull out of Bay Area vents is remarkably consistent — compacted lint at the termination, failed or painted-shut flaps, and bird nests in spring. None of it is visible from the laundry room, which is why the exterior termination check is a fixed step of every cleaning rather than an add-on.
